BCCI says Pakistan cleared to tour India

The BCCI announced on Tuesday that it has secured government clearance to host Pakistan for a short tour later this year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited Pakistan to play three one-dayers and two Twenty20 matches in December-January, the first bilateral contests between the arch-rivals in five years.


"We have discussed all security aspects (and) the tour is on," board spokesman Rajiv Shukla told reporters after a meeting between its officials and Indian Home Secretary R. K. Singh in New Delhi.

A report by the Press Trust of India said the venues for the ODI games would most likely be Chennai, Kolkata and New Delhi while the Twenty20 matches would take place in Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

The rivals have not played a series since Pakistan's tour of India in 2007, after cricket ties were snapped following the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai by militants from Pakistan.

Cricket ties have been the subject of discussions between the governments of both nuclear-armed countries. They have been holding regular meetings in a bid to improve relations and eventually thrash out a peace agreement.

The countries -- where cricket is hugely popular -- have fought three wars since independence in 1947. The Indian and Pakistani cricket teams have only met in international tournaments since 2007. They clashed in the ODI World Cup semi-final in the northern Indian town of Mohali last year, a match that was attended by both countries' prime ministers.

With title sponsors DLF severing ties with the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday floated tender notices to decide who will carry the mantle forward.

A senior BCCI official said that with the base price set at Rs 60 crore per year, Vodafone (already co-sponsors), Airtel, Pepsi and Coke are the frontrunners to win the bid for title sponsorship.

"The base price has been kept at ` 60 crore per year and the Invitation to Tender (ITT) can be obtained from the BCCI headquarters itself. At present Vodafone, Airtel, Pepsi and Coke look to be the frontrunners, but then there is time till November 21 and there could be an intense bidding process,” the official told MAIL TODAY. But he said that things could get a little tricky if Airtel end up winning the bid.

"Vodafone have made it clear that if any other telecom company comes on board, they will sever ties with the IPL. Being cosponsors already, this could be an issue for the board, if Airtel come up with the best bid,” he said.

DLF ended their association with the IPL in August citing their endeavour to promote other sports in the country.

"Sponsoring IPL over the last five years was a strategic decision wherein we wanted to establish our brand presence across India as the leading real estate player. We want to promote different sports for a good, clean and healthy living, which we do in all our townships,” DLF group executive director Rajeev Talwar had said.

IPL commissioner Rajeev Shukla said BCCI was confident they would get a better deal this time round.

"We have floated new tenders and are confident of signing a better deal this time round,” he told Mail Today. The board waited for the Deccan Chargers financial mess to be sorted out before floating tender notices to find a new title sponsor.

"Under this Invitation to Tender, the winning bidder will be granted the right to be title sponsor of the IPL for the five seasons from 2013 to 2017.

The title sponsor rights include a number of branding and other marketing benefits to be received by the title sponsor at every IPL match during the season as specifically outlined in the Invitation to Tender,” the tender notice issued by the board stated.

The notice also made it clear that companies which intend to sell off the rights after winning the bid are ineligible to apply in the first place.

"Bids may be submitted in respect of all product categories listed in the ITT. Only corporate entities, whether in India or abroad, which are interested in placing a bid for themselves and/ or their holding or subsidiary company(ies), for the purpose of the advertisement and promotion of their own brands within their primary product or services categories are eligible to participate in this tender process and to submit bids. For the sake of clarity, agencies intending to sell the rights to another corporate entity are not eligible to participate in this tender,” it said.

Sri Lanka New Zealand T20 fixture abandoned due to rain

Pallekele: The one-off T20 between Sri Lanka and New Zealand was abandoned due to rain at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Sri Lankan openers Tillakaratne Dilshan (2*) and Dilshan Munaweera (4*) had played two overs, in chase of a 72-run target, when the heavens opened up.

Cyclonic storm likely to intensify in Tamil Nadu, schools closed in Chennai

 

CHENNAI: A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, which would further intensify into a cyclonic storm, on Tuesday brought heavy rains in many parts of Tamil Nadu, especially in coastal areas, prompting the government to declare a holiday for schools.

Chennai, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and Villupuram received heavy rains in the morning, inconveniencing office-goers. The cyclonic storm would cross between Nagapattinam and Nellore on Wednesday, Met Department said.

"The deep depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved westwards, and lay centred at 1800 UTC of yesterday over southwest Bay of Bengal near latitude 9.00N and longitude 82.00E, about 500 km south-southeast of Chennai and 100 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka)."

"The system would intensify further into a cyclonic storm and move westwards for some more time and come very close to Sri Lanka coast and then move northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nagapattinam and Nellore by tomorrow afternoon," the Met Department said.

It forecast "heavy to extremely heavy rainfall" upto 25 cm or more besides squally winds reaching upto 45-55 kmph of speed and gusting upto 65 kmph off north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 12 hours", it said.

"The wind speed would gradually increase thereafter as the system comes closer to coast. Sea condition will be very rough to high along and off north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 48 hours.

Fishermen along north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts are advised not to venture into the sea," the department said.

NEW YORK: Superstorm Sandy, one of the fiercest storms ever to hit the United States, has left at least 16 people dead and over six million people in darkness as it continues to batter the nation's eastern seaboard with unprecedented ferocity.

 As the damage from the 'Frankenstorm' continues to grow, President Obama declared a state of emergency in New York City, AFP reported.

Though downgraded to a "post-tropical" superstorm Monday evening by the National Hurricane Centre, Sandy unleashed powerful winds and torrential rains from North Carolina to Maine and knocked out power across 11 states and the national capital.


Over 700,000 homes and businesses were without power in New York City and Westchester county, out of a total of 3 million Con Edison customers.

More than 1 million people across a dozen states were under orders to evacuate as the massive system continued to plow westward.

One disaster forecasting company predicted economic losses could ultimately reach $20 billion, only half insured.

In New York City, emergency backup power failed and 10 feet of water flooded the basement of NYU Langone Medical Center, forcing the evacuation of 260 patients. Nurses manually pumped air to the lungs of those on respirators, reported CNN.

Lower Manhattan's Battery Park recorded a 12.75 ft tide, breaking a record set in 1960 with Hurricane Donna. The city halted service on its bus and train lines, closing schools and ordering about 400,000 people out of their homes in low-lying areas of Manhattan and elsewhere.

The iconic Grand Central Station in New York bore an eerily deserted look and the subway shut down for only the second time in its history.

Hurricane-force winds stretched from Cape Cod to the Virginia coast as Sandy swept ashore, with its storm surge setting new high-water records for lower Manhattan and swamping beachfronts on both sides of Long Island Sound.

Mass transit shut down across the densely populated Northeast, landmarks stood empty and schools and government offices were closed. The National Grid, which provides power to millions of customers, said 60 million people could be affected before it's over.

"I've been down here for about 16 years, and it's shocking what I'm looking at now. It's unbelievable," Montgomery Dahm, owner of the Tun Tavern in Atlantic City, which stayed open as Sandy neared the Jersey Shore, was quoted as saying.

By Monday afternoon, 23 states were under a warning or advisory for wind related to Sandy. Thousands of flights had been cancelled, and hundreds of roads were flooded.

With the storm expected to linger longer than most, the federal workforce and public employees in the national capital, Maryland and Virginia were told to stay home for a second day Tuesday.

No flights were expected Tuesday in or out of the region's three airports, where scores of travellers were stranded Monday after airlines halted service throughout the Northeast.

Honda Brio Automatic Road Test and Review

 

Automatic transmissions have come of age in India. Those who previously sneered at the inefficient, lazy boxes are now considering buying them, thanks to a range of more dynamic automatic transmission options available in the small car segment.

The Honda Brio has the reputation of being one of the best city cars. Now, Honda has made it even better with the introduction of an automatic transmission.

Visually, you will hardly spot any difference between the automatic and manual Brios until you step inside the cabin. Apart from the automatic transmission gear stick and the gear indicators on the instrument panel, the interiors too remain pretty much the same.

The automatic Brio is powered by the same engine, as its manual sibling. The 1.2 litre i-VTEC is a gem of an engine that gets better as it revs towards the redline. Mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, the engine ever-so-smoothly makes light work of urban commuting.
The Brio gets a conventional five-speed automatic gearbox instead of the CVT. The gearbox is similar to the one in the Honda City Automatic, but has different gear ratios.
Moving around the city, the auto box works really well, which means you negotiate the bumper to bumper traffic without breaking a sweat. Never did I feel the gearbox or the engine being laggy. Moreover, the car's compact size and tight turning circle are a real blessing. However in the automatic variant, turning radius has gone up by 0.2 metres.
The gearbox is equally good on highway as well, seeking out the optimum gear to match the torque delivery and kicking down swiftly once you put your foot down. Should you need quicker acceleration for overtaking, you can shift to D3, D2 or even D1, which holds onto each gear like in a manual, and does not upshift even at the redline.
In terms of mileage, the automatic Brio returns 16.5 kmpl, which is 2.9 kmpl less than the manual. However, the Eco lamp on the meter console works well to encourage economic driving.

Prices for the Brio AT start at Rs 5.74 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the S variant. A higher-spec V variant is also available for Rs 5.99 lakh and comes with alloy wheels, dual airbags, fog lamps and dual-tone beige interiors with silver garnish.

It was just couple of weeks ago that I spent two days and more than 600 kilometres with the Brio as part of the 'Drive to Discover' programme and explored the many facets of the car. So I can brazenly say that the Brio is practical, economical, solidly built and is certainly one of the most fun-to-drive hatchbacks around. If you think the comfort and convenience of the automatic transmission is well worth the extra cost (Rs 75000) and reduced fuel economy (by 2.9 kmpl) the Brio Automatic will not disappoint you.

Gavaskar to receive CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award

Mumbai: The Indian cricket board decided to confer the Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award on former India cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Col. C.K. Nayudu Award Committee met here Thursday and chose to nominate Gavaskar for the award which comprises a trophy, citation and cheque for Rs.25 lakh.

One of the all-time greats, Gavaskar represented India in 125 Tests from 1970-71 to 1986-87. He scored a record 774 runs in his debut series in the West Indies and went on to achieve several milestones.

He was the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in Tests and the first to play 100 consecutive Tests. He was also the first batsman to score hundreds in each innings of a Test thrice.
Gavaskar became the first batsman to surpass Sir Don Bradman's tally of 29 Test centuries.
His greatest triumph as captain was India's victory in the World Championship of Cricket in 1984-85.
Gavaskar, who regularly commentates, will receive the award at the BCCI awards ceremony to be held shortly, the board said.


The committee also decided to honour seven individuals posthumously with a Special Award for their outstanding contribution to Indian cricket. Tne kin of each of them will receive a trophy and cheque for Rs.15 lakh.
Those to be honoured are: Vijay Merchant, Vinoo Mankad, Dattu Phadkar, Vijay Manjrekar, Ghulam Ahmed, M.L. Jaisimha, and Dilip Sardesai.

Honda teases sleek Brio sedan

Honda has published an official teaser image of the Brio Sedan on its Thailand website. Contrary to some despicable 'rendered images' put out by some Indian automobile websites, the Brio sedan has a very futuristic design, with cues taken from the Honda City.

The company hasn't divulged any information beyond the above photo. However, what we can clearly see are the i-VTEC badge on the car's rear and '1.2' written on the image. These clearly suggest the car will be powered by the Brio hatchback's 1.2 litre i-VTEC motor.

Rumour has it that the Brio Sedan will also get a scaled down version of the 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. Although there's no official word on this yet, expect a 1.5 litre diesel Brio sedan by April 2013.

Being a sub-4metre car, the Brio sedan will take on the Maruti Dzire, Tata Indigo eCS and the Mahindra Verito CS that will be launched by March 2013.

Talk of the town is that Honda will also introduce diesel variants of the Brio hatchback and the City sedan next year. After all, one thing is clear - Honda will be back with a vengeance in 2013.

The series gives the home side an opportunity to make amends for the humiliating 4-0 whitewash in England last year that saw them dethroned as the number one Test side -- and their replacement by England.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's team then suffered another 4-0 defeat in Australia, capping a miserable six-month period that took the shine off India's 50-over World Cup triumph in 2011.

But with the series against England followed by four Tests against Australia in February-March, India, ranked fifth in the world, will look to take advantage of familiar conditions to haul themselves back up the rankings.

Dhoni has urged groundsmen to prepare wickets that suit spin bowling and selectors refused to pick a spinner for England's three-day opener in Mumbai from Tuesday, denying the tourists early exposure to the turning ball.

"When we go to England, we get wickets that help the seamers and in Australia you get tracks with bounce," said Dhoni. "In the subcontinent, spin is what matters and we should stick to that."

England, who last won a Test series in India under David Gower in 1985 and lost their number one status to South Africa in August, will receive a boost from the return of the dangerous Pietersen.

Pietersen, who has hit more than 7,000 Test runs at a shade under 50, smashed a brilliant 144 in England's last Test on Indian soil in 2008 and knows the conditions well as a player for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League.

And the 32-year-old will be keen to impress after he was dropped in August for sending text messages to touring South Africa players that contained criticism of then skipper Andrew Strauss.

Numerous meetings with England team bosses and players eventually saw him added at the last minute to the Indian tour party and Cook said Pietersen was "contrite" over his actions and would be welcomed back into the squad.

India, who began their busy home season by winning both Tests against lowly New Zealand in August and September before being ousted in the second round of the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, are facing a future without Tendulkar.

The plans of the 39-year-old superstar are in the spotlight after the admitted earlier this month that the clock was ticking on his run-filled 23-year career.

"I don't think I have plenty of cricket left in me," said Tendulkar, the highest run-scorer in Test and one-day cricket history -- and the only batsman to notch 100 international centuries.

Tendulkar, who has scored a record 51 Test centuries, has now gone 25 innings without a hundred in the five-day format since making 146 against South Africa in Cape Town in January 2011.

He was bowled in all three innings against New Zealand with a top score of just 27, raising fears that age may finally be catching up with him.

England have the rare luxury of two three-day games and one four-day match to acclimatise to Indian conditions before the series starts in Ahmedabad.

Further Tests are scheduled for Mumbai, Kolkata and Nagpur.

The tourists, who also play two Twenty20 matches following the Tests, will go home for Christmas before returning in the New Year for a five-match one-day series.

JOHANNESBURG:South Africa fly to Australia Sunday aiming to consolidate the position of No 1 Test team earned mid-year with a series triumph in England.

The Proteas won an eventful three-Test showdown 2-0 with then England skipper Andrew Strauss retiring after the series and Kevin Pietersen being temporarily banned for texting messages critical of his team-mates to South Africans.

Many of the triumphant South Africans were furious at the Pietersen drama, believing it diluted the media attention they deserved, and they became even angrier when the England batting star alleged he was set up by unnamed Proteas.

But South Africa skipper Graeme Smith says any lingering thoughts of England and Pietersen must be packed away as Tests in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth loom with the first starting on November 9 at the Gabba.

"We knew tours to England and Australia were coming this year and both were going to be tough," Smith said as the squad completed preparations for the trip down under.

"The first hurdle has been overcome and, obviously, we would like to do the same in Australia. We know we have got a quality team that has proved its ability to win away from home.

"I believe we have earned the right to go there with the mantle of being the No 1 Test team through the way we have played this year," added the South Africa opening batsman.

Coach Gary Kirsten, who took over his native country after guiding India to victory in the World Cup last year, said the build-up for Australia was much the same as for England.

"We are going to make sure we prepare as diligently as possible, just as we did ahead of the England series. We don't want to say too much because we would prefer our performances to speak for themselves."

Smith rates the South African squad among the best to visit Australia, where they triumphed 2-1 three years ago in the last clash between the great sporting rivals.

Then South Africa coach Mickey Arthur now guides Australia, but Smith says he cannot afford to lose any sleep over that fact, lest it affects team preparations.

"If I lose sleep over what Mickey is telling Australia, then it is going to affect how we prepare as a team. How we adapt to the conditions will be much more important," stressed Smith.

Much pre-series media attention has centred on the battle of the pace attacks with South Africans Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander and Morne Morkel and Australians Ben Hilfenhaus and Peter Siddle among the top 10 ranked bowlers.

"Brisbane and Perth could be quite fiery from the sound of things and how we adapt to what the conditions are going to be means a lot more than comparing coaches or teams," said Smith.

The Proteas skipper said batsman-wicketkeeper AB de Villiers had received three weeks of treatment for a back injury and was expected to be ready for the opening Test.

After a three-day warm-up against Australia A in Sydney from November 2, the Brisbane Test begins on November 9, the second at the Adelaide Oval on November 22 and the last on November 30 at the Waca in Perth.

Chinese premiers family has massive wealth by NYT report

The family of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, a leader known for his humble roots and compassion for ordinary people, has accumulated massive wealth during his time in power, the New York Times reported on Friday.

"A review of corporate and regulatory records indicates that the prime minister's relatives, some of whom have a knack for aggressive deal-making, including his wife, have controlled assets worth at least $2.7 billion," it said.

The Times' websites in English and Chinese were blocked in China on Friday morning, and searches for the New York Times as well as the names of Wen's children and wife were blocked on China's main Twitter-like microblog service.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a daily briefing the report "smears China's name and has ulterior motives".

Asked why the websites were blocked, Hong said: "China manages the Internet in accordance with laws and rules."

The Times reported that Wen's mother, siblings and children had amassed the majority of the wealth since Wen was named vice premier in 1998. Wen was promoted to the premiership in 2003.

Giving one example, the Times said partnerships controlled by Wen's relatives and their friends and colleagues held up to $2.2 billion in stock in Ping An Insurance (Group) Co of China Ltd <601318.SS> <2318.HK> in 2007, the last year those stock holdings were disclosed in public documents.

Wen's 90-year-old mother had one investment in Ping An that was worth $120 million five years ago, the newspaper said.

The Times said it presented its findings to the government for comment. The Foreign Ministry declined to respond. Members of Wen's family also declined to comment or did not respond to requests for comment, the Times said.

The private lives of Chinese leaders as well as their assets are kept under wraps, with personal details considered state secrets.

Still, cases against lower-level officials, often exposed by Chinese media, and reports on senior officials by Western and Hong Kong news organisations, underscore the extent to which those with power profit from their standing.

Occasionally, top officials are caught and prosecuted.

In the biggest political scandal in China in decades, now-disgraced senior party leader Bo Xilai, whose wife was convicted of corruption and murder in August, has been expelled from the party and stands accused of corruption, bribery and sexual promiscuity.

Bo was expelled from China's parliament on Friday and is expected to stand trial soon.

The extended family of Xi Jinping, current vice president who is expected to be named head of China's Communist Party next month and president of the country in March, has also amassed great wealth, according to an earlier news report.

Xi's relatives had investments in companies with assets of $375 million, and an 18 percent indirect stake in a company with $1.7 billion in assets, Bloomberg news reported in June.

Bloomberg's website has been blocked in China since that report was published, underscoring the sensitivity of the Party and government towards such revelations about top leaders.

In the case of Wen and his relatives, the names of family members "have been hidden behind layers of partnerships and investment vehicles involving friends, work colleagues and business partners", the New York Times said.

It said Wen's family's holdings include a villa development project in Beijing, a tire factory in northern China, a company involved in building some of the venues for Beijing's 2008 Olympics including the "Bird's Nest" main stadium, and Ping An Insurance, one of the world's largest financial services companies.

Wen's younger brother has a company that was awarded more than $30 million in government contracts and subsidies for waste water treatment and medical waste disposal in some of China's biggest cities, and controls $200 million in assets in a number of companies, the Times said, basing its estimate on government records.

The Chinese public has a fondness for Wen, who is often referred to as "Grandpa Wen" in the media, for his common touch with ordinary people, and for rushing to console victims of disasters, such as earthquakes and accidents.

Haryanas clean chit to Vadra a cover up by Kejriwal

New Delhi: India Against Corruption (IAC) leader Arvind Kejriwal Friday termed as a cover-up the clean chit given by Haryana government to Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in land purchase deals in the state.

"Newspapers say Haryana officers have given clean chit to Vadra. It was expected... there are some people in this county against whom no investigation can be made," alleged Kejriwal.

"Does any government agency in the country have the guts to investigate him?" asked Kejriwal, adding: "One officer, Ashok Khemka, tried to dare but he was transferred. I know all the investigations would be done for giving clean chit to Vadra."

Clearing Vadra of any wrong-doing, four Haryana bureaucrats said there were no irregularities in the land purchases done by Vadra and his companies.

Official sources in Chandigarh confirmed that the deputy commissioners (DCs) of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Mewat and Palwal have said that there was no "wrong-doing" in the land purchases done by Vadra and his companies in their respective districts.

Senior Haryana cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Ashok Khemka had asked the DCs of the four districts Oct 12 to inquire into Vadra's land deals in their areas since 2005.

They were also asked to see if the purchase of the land had been undervalued to evade stamp duty. Khemka, who was director-general, consolidation, then had sought the report by Oct 25.

However, Khemka was removed from the post by the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government. Though the government tried to project it as a routine transfer, government sources said it was apparent that Khemka was shifted as he opened the probe against Vadra's land deals on Oct 8.

The sources said that Vadra had made the land purchases in a "transparent" manner and had paid the stamp duty as per the prevailing collector rate in each district.

Vadra and his companies had made land purchases in Gurgaon, Palwal, Mewat and Faridabad districts from 2005. The total land bought by Vadra in these districts was over 170 acres.

NEW DELHI: Amid talks of a cabinet reshuffle, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna has resigned from his post, official sources told IANS.

Reports says that Krishna would like to give Prime Minister Singh a free hand in deciding whom he would like to chose as the next foreign minister of the country during the expected reshuffle of cabinet over the weekend.

Sources are also saying that the Prime Minister could assume responsibilities of the foreign office for a couple of days before deciding on the person he would like in Krishna's place.




Rumors are also doing the rounds that Krishna could be headed back to Karnataka state politics, or even be made the governor of some state, given his seniority in politics and in the Congress Party.

With the reshuffle expected to take place on Sunday, Congress leaders have said that it is the prerogative of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Keen to infuse more young blood into Manmohan Singh's ministerial team, Congress may opt to give party MPs such as Meenakshi Natarajan, Manicka Tagore and Pradip Majhi minister of state ranks. Natarajan, a Lok Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur, is one of the secretaries involved with Gandhi's organisational works.

CP Joshi is likely to retain the railway ministry and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor may stage a comeback after being dropped in 2010 following an IPL controversy. K Rehman Khan, former deputy chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, may take over the minority affairs ministry from Salman Khurshid.

Andhra Pradesh MP Cheeranjivi, who had merged his Praja Rajyam Party with Congress earlier, may be rewarded with MoS berth.

Minister of State for Telecom Sachin Pilot has said that the Prime Minister will take the final call regarding reallocation of portfolios.

"In the cabinet what work one does and who gets included and what kind of responsibility is given - this is the prerogative of Prime Minister. It comes under his jurisdiction. It is his discretion to whom to include in his team and what responsibility one has to be given," he said.

Speculation has been rife about a possible reshuffle in the wake of the exit of Trinamool Congress ministers and DMK representatives A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran in the last two years.

Reports of an imminent reshuffle gained fresh momentum after Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi met President Pranab Mukherjee separately recently.

Rumors abound that some young faces could be included in the Cabinet.

Among the young ministers, Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Jitin Prasada may get promoted to Cabinet rank or get independent charge as Ministers of State.

The latest reshuffle exercise could see some of the ministers holding charges of two ministries losing one of the portfolios.

With six ministers from the Trinamool Congress leaving, two or three Congress leaders from West Bengal are expected to be accommodated.

The names of Deepa Dashmunshi, Adhir Choudhury and West Bengal PCC chief Pradeep Bhatacharjee are doing the rounds.
