Why Aakash Tablet Is A Failure

altThe much-touted Aakash Tablet by our Government was helmed to be the Tata Nano of technology. To bring a cheaper alternative to a gadget that is usually beyond the reach of the masses,
Aakash was all set to kick in a technological revolution of some sorts in India, albeit with the recent announcement of the Government about its failure to produce it till the 31st of March due to several complications leads us to jot down the numerous shortcomings. So let’s have a look at the reasons why the cheapest tablet in the world hasn’t seen the day of the light yet!

Processing Issues

Aakash being the cheapest tablet out there, it is fairly certain to say the configuration won’t be anything close to being spectacular, and yet it fails at keeping up with the time. Equipped with a processor that can juice out a miserable 336 MHz, the Aakash is nowhere close to computing. Even the cheapest smartphone out there runs 600 MHz and fumbles while processing the operating system. Running an OS for a tablet equipped with the latest OS at a measly 336 MHz would be practically impossible and make Aakash look like a Neanderthal gadget out there!

Memory, Or The Lack Of It

Aakash’s prime motive was to bring about the latest in technology and club it with edutainment for the masses. Yet the primary element needed for this very same function is the storage facility to store hordes of educational videos, apps, and other useful files. Unfortunately Aakash packs a 2GB in-built memory for a person to utilize. An embarrassingly small space, 2 GB would barely suffice for any form of storage. Thankfully it does come with an SD slot, but that would mean another investment in a memory card. Bad move!

Connectivity Issues

Wi-Fi connectivity seems to be the way the future would connect, yet a 3G support would do wonders for the ones who aren’t in favorable areas. Aakash seems to have missed this mark by a mile! A device made to be used in rural areas would be devoid of Wi-Fi amenities, and yet designing a tablet that is only capable of connecting via Wi-Fi seems to be a wrong move in all aspects. A 3G support would have worked wonders, but Aakash failed to miss the point, and failed to deliver what it was primarily built for.

Battery Life

Straight to the point, a tablet equipped with a 7 inch touchscreen meant to run android apps for educational purpose needs a fairly decent battery life. Yet Aakash has an alarmingly small one of 2100 mAh. Maybe not that small, maybe it’ll be able to sustain itself for an hour or two. But understanding the demographics and looking at the target audience it’s meant for, this is a terrible move. Rural areas such as villages situated in remote pockets of India are deprived of electricity, and equipping them with a tablet that runs out of battery in short span would spell doom. And they aren’t giving a solar charger with it to compensate for this issue, are they?

The Pricing

Although priced at Rs. 2500/- , the expenses with regards to Aakash do not end there. The shipping cost would add an extra bit, and the general lack of storage would expect a buyer to invest in a MicroSD card that’ll add another bit to it. There’s more. A general lack of audio output requires a pair of earphones. Taking all these parameters into consideration, a total expenditure of 3,500/- would be necessary. A high price for a target audience who are least interested in shelling out such a high price for a gadget that doesn’t live to its expectation. Even more so is the prospect of other cheap alternatives with better configuration and better performance available at the same price of 3500/-!

One button call will bring you police help

WOMEN in distress can now reach the Delhi Police with just a press of a button on their mobile phone.
After facing criticism for their time- consuming process in helping women in distress, which includes receiving a PCR call and forwarding it to the nearest PCR van, police have come up with a new technology for better and quick response.
mobile phone In the new system, a person will have to press a button on the mobile phone. After a user presses the button, calls will be made to five to six numbers, including 100.
“ A user will have to download a software available online. After the software is downloaded, it will be connected to a particular button on the mobile phone. The button will be connected directly to 100 and five to six other numbers chosen by the user. In case of panic, a user will have to press the button and a message will be sent to the PCR and other contacts attached to the button,” said a police officer explaining the software.
Once the message is sent from a particular number, the operators deployed in the control room will track the location of the caller and help will be sent to him or her, the officer added.

Delhi Police are starting a pilot run next week to see the response of the system. “ We will start with installing this software in a few phones to see how it works,” said T. N. Mohan, Special CP operations.
There can be pros and cons to the software as it can be misused as well. This is why we want to do a pilot run before we finally make it public. We are currently in talks with the software providers on testing the software, he added.
The recommendation of having a system of push button was suggested by the Usha Mehra Commission in February. Justice Mehra, a retired judge of the Delhi High Court, had said, “ A  system should be put in place in which there should be a push button in mobile phones through which family or police could be reached immediately when anyone is in distress. The push button should function even if there is no battery in the phone.”
The recommendation of having a system of push button was suggested by the Usha Mehra Commission in February

HOW IT WILL WORK
A user will have to download a software available online. After downloading the software, it will be connected to a particular button on the mobile phone. The button will be connected directly to 100 and five to six other numbers chosen by the user In case of panic, a user will have to press the button and a message will be sent to the PCR and other contacts attached to the button. The operators deployed in the control room will track the location of the caller and help will be sent to her. Delhi Police are starting a trial run next week to see the response of the new system before making it public.

Big Tech tests the waters of the music stream

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Technology giants Apple, Google and Amazon are furiously maneuvering for position in the online music business and looking at ways to make streaming profitable, despite the fact that pioneer Pandora has never made a profit.
(Blank Headline Received)

It has been more than a decade since the iPod heralded the revival of Apple and presaged the smartphone revolution, even as music-sharing site Napster was showing the disruptive power of the Internet in the music business.
Now Google , Amazon.com Inc and Apple are among the Silicon Valley powerhouses sounding out top recording industry executives, according to sources with knowledge of talks and media reports. Streaming service Pandora is spending freely and racking up losses to expand globally. Even social media stalwarts Facebook and Twitter are jumping on the bandwagon.

All of them see a viable music streaming and subscription service as crucial to growing their presence in an exploding mobile environment. For Google and Apple, it is critical in ensuring users remain loyal to their mobile products.
Music has been integral to the mobile experience since the early days of iTunes, which upended the old models with its 99-cent per song buying approach. Now, as smartphones and tablets supplant PCs and virtual storage replaces songs on devices, mobile players from handset makers to social networks realize they must stake out a place or risk ceding control of one of the largest components of mobile device usage.
About 48 percent of smartphone users listen to music on their device, making it the fourth most popular media-related activity after social networking, games and news, according to a ComScore survey of mobile behavior released in February. Users ranked a phone's music and video capability at 7.4 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being most important purchase consideration factor, according to the study.
"Music is very strategic for the various electronic devices Samsung manufactures," said Daren Tsui, CEO and co-founder of streaming music service mSpot, which Samsung bought last year to create the Music Hub service now available on Galaxy smartphones in the United States and Europe.
"By owning it, we can absolutely customize the music experience and leverage the fact that it's not just a service but there's also a hardware component."
In January, Beats Electronics, the startup co-founded by recording supremo Jimmy Iovine and hip-hop performer-producer Dr. Dre, and backed by Universal and Warner Music, announced a new streaming-subscription service dubbed "Daisy" to take on Pandora and Spotify starting this summer.
Now, industry insiders expect Apple, Google and other technology titans to jump into the fray. Apple is talking with music labels about tacking a subscription service option onto iTunes, sources have said, while Google is said to be planning a YouTube subscription music service, according to media reports.
"There are some content creators that think they would benefit from a subscription revenue stream in addition to ads, so we're looking at that," a YouTube spokesperson said, but declined to comment on any specific negotiations.
Apple declined to comment.
Microsoft is already promoting its Xbox Music service. Their entry promises to catalyze an industry shake-up and propel music streaming further into the mainstream.
"ITunes was great but it needs a step forward," Iovine, chairman of Universal Music's Interscope-Geffen-A&M Records, told the AllThingsD conference in February. "There is an ocean of music out there that people want."
MOBILE MUSIC LOVERS
Music streaming, or playing songs over the Internet, has in recent years begun to come into its own as listeners increasingly choose to stream songs from apps like Pandora via their smartphones, rather than buy and store individual tracks.
The ad-free subscription model, where consumers pay a flat fee for near-unlimited listening time, is relatively new and quickly gaining popularity.
Pandora, one of the pioneers, is now trying to convert users of its free ad-supported radio service into subscribers. It says mobile users account for more than two thirds of its music, up from just 5 percent of listener-hours three years earlier.
Subscription services are expected to have crossed the 10 per cent mark as a share of total digital music revenues in 2012 for the first time, according to a recent report from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, which represents the recording industry worldwide.
Consumers spent $5.6 billion worldwide for digital music in 2012, an increase of 9 percent, offsetting the decline in CDs and other physical ways to provide music. That gave the industry its best growth since 1998, albeit a miniscule 0.3 percent, according to the IFPI.
Pure buyers "have to spend hundreds of dollars a month on music, which most people can't afford to do," Spotify founder and CEO Daniel Ek told Reuters in an interview last week at South-by-Southwest Interactive. "It's pretty obvious that the access model or the subscription model is a much better proposition for most people."
U.S. consumers will stream an estimated 100 billion tracks this year, says David Bakula, senior vice-president for client development and analytics for Nielsen Entertainment.
"The big question is who has the business model to make it work," said Bakula, a former executive at Universal Music, one of the four major music labels. "The first ones in the market may not be the winners."
Apple CEO Tim Cook recently met with Iovine and other Beats executives to find out more about that business. It is unclear if Apple will join Beats' Project Daisy.
SHOW ME THE MONEY
Making money off music streaming is difficult. Leading players Pandora and Spotify, despite attracting hundreds of millions of dollars in financing and millions of subscribers, have never reported a cent of profit.
No less a personage than Steve Jobs himself was a skeptic.
"Never say never, but customers don't seem to be interested in it," the late Apple co-founder and online music visionary told Reuters in a 2007 interview. Apple's current executives have not publicly stated their views on streaming music.
Pandora, which went public in 2011, now has 67 million monthly listeners worldwide - a 41 percent jump from a year ago - together listening to more than 13 billion hours of music.
But its losses more than doubled to $38.1 million in the year to January 31, 2013, hurt by the high cost of standard streaming licenses that typically have a per-track royalty model. This has forced Pandora, which relies mainly on advertising for revenue, to cap free mobile listening at 40 hours per month.
It and other music services such as Clear Channel Communications' iHeartRadio are now urging lawmakers in the U.S. Congress to pass the "Internet Radio Fairness Act," which would set royalty rates for subscription music services using the same standard that has so far been applied to other forms of radio.
But a group of 125 musicians, including Billy Joel and Rihanna, are speaking up against it, arguing that the bill would cut by 85 percent the amount of money an artist receives when his or her songs are played over the Internet.
The issue of how recording labels and musicians will be paid is one of the biggest roadblocks to growth. Competition will almost certainly force a shakeout, with winners and losers.
That could accelerate once major technology companies like Amazon and Google flex their marketing muscles, not to mention Apple with its ability to leverage its enormous base of online music buyers. The California gadget giant is unlikely to cede its lead in selling music without a fight.
While streaming could undercut sales of music tracks, Apple has always maintained that if there is potential for cannibalization of its products, the gadget maker would rather be in charge than let others in on it.
Finally, Microsoft has a large audience of Windows and Xbox players to whom it can promote Xbox Music Pass, a $9.99 a month service it launched in October. The software giant has declined to talk about its future plans in this area.
Bring it on, says Ek from Spotify.
"It's rare that gigantic companies figure out a new way to do something peripheral," Ek said. "I don't believe the world will only be controlled by a Google or an Apple. It will be companies who are great at games like EA, at films like Netflix, or at music like Spotify."

Arrests for assault as Kiwi star Ryder improves

Battered New Zealand cricketer Jesse Ryder was showing signs of improvement Friday and gave family the thumbs-up as police charged two men with assaulting the gifted batsman in a savage beating.
Ryder was attacked by a group of men as he left a bar in the South Island city of Christchurch early Thursday, and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition where he was placed in an induced coma.
His manager Aaron Klee said Ryder was responsive Friday and had given the thumbs-up to medical staff and members of his family who rushed to be at his bedside.
Ryder remains in an intensive care unit in a stable condition and requires help with breathing because of an injury to his lung while the extent of his head injury has yet to be determined.
His mother Heather and his partner Ally thanked people around the world for sending messages of sympathy and police for arresting "people responsible for the heinous crime committed on our Jesse".

"Jesse will be chuffed knowing how many people care and have reached out, including the huge number of cricket fans and players from around the world," they said in a statement.
"We have read many of the messages online over the past 24 hours and we are keeping them for Jesse to read when he recovers."

Police said they had charged a 20-year-old man and a 37-year-old relative of his with the assault and they would appear in court next Thursday.
"Two or three" people attacked Ryder as he left a bar and then resumed the assault when the injured player made his way to the car park of a fast-food outlet across the road, police said.
Although Ryder has a history of alcohol-related incidents and had been drinking before he was attacked, police said alcohol was not a factor in this instance.
Closed-circuit television footage showed the 28-year-old Ryder shaking hands with one of his alleged attackers moments before the assault started, according to bar owner Steve Holmes.
Holmes told Fairfax Media after reviewing the footage that the assault was "completely unexpected".
He said Ryder, who had been drinking with his Wellington team-mates after losing a season-ending match against Canterbury, was leaving the bar when one of the attackers called out to him.
Ryder went back to talk to the man and the two appeared to chat before shaking hands, Holmes said.
After a few minutes he said the "body language changed" between the two. Ryder walked out of the bar and the man followed him, seemingly yelling after him.
"There was no altercation until the cricket team left basically," he said. "No one was heavily intoxicated, it was just a mediocre Wednesday night."
Regan Harvey, who witnessed the assault and has given a statement to the police, believed Ryder was the target of an unprovoked "hate fight".
Harvey was drinking at the bar when he heard the fight erupt.
"As I walked out there were a couple of guys beating up this one guy on the ground" and one of the attackers gave "two massive kicks" into Ryder's stomach and rib cage, he said.
Ryder is on a self-imposed exile from international cricket while he addresses "personal issues" and has rejected calls to return to the New Zealand team despite an outstanding domestic season.
He last played for New Zealand a year ago in a one-day match against South Africa.
He was dropped for the next game when he breached team rules and went drinking in a bar where he verbally reacted to taunts from a member of the public.
Ryder was due to fly to India this weekend to compete for the Delhi Daredevils in the lucrative Indian Premier League. The team has wished him a speedy recovery.

96. Whenever lemon slices are added to any tea, make sure to remove every single seed, or the tea will taste bitter.

102. Always keep dough covered with a moist cloth to avoid a dry crust from forming on it.

103. To unmould chilled dishes quickly, dip container halfway into hot water for a few seconds and then unmould.

How To Gain Weight Through Proper Diet

altWhen most women go gyming and dieting to lose weight, there are some boney and skinny women who wish to put on weight. They feel dejected and suffer from inferiority
complex because of underdeveloped bust line, undeveloped buts and lack of body mass which often restrains their feminine charm. And this becomes particularly depressing when you are mocked at by your friends and people around.

While there are hundred thousands ways of losing weight, one will find only a few ways of gaining weight. Now, if you are planning to gain weight, never gorge on junk, fried food and cold drinks. These are not healthy ways of putting on weight and might even end up having negative impacts on your body.
First of all, you will need to increase your calorie and fat intake. But the amount of increment should be decided only after consulting your dietician. Secondly, you should not increase you calorie intake overnight. This might result in stomach problems, diarrhea etc. It is always recommended to prepare a diet chart and divide your eating regime into 5 quarters a day.
Include a lot of proteins in your diet in the form of pulses, beans, fishes, eggs, sprout etc. as that would help in building new muscles, retaining the health of the muscles, adding positive fat to the body and eventually increasing body weight.
If you are aiming at gaining weight, include more and more of high starch content foods like potatoes, rice, corn starch, tapioca etc. All these are rich in fats that are essential for cellular function, production of hormones, protection of vital organs and energy in the body. Don’t forget to include, fruits and vegetables in your ‘weight gain’ diet. They are the richest source of vitamins and minerals that have both health and weight gain implications.
Lastly, remember to keep checking your weight after a gap of every few days to see if your weight gain diet is really making a difference to your weight after all.

7 Things You Should Never Do To Lose Weight

altThe attempt to lose weight may lead you to adopt various methods – including diets and exercise regimes – that you may spend days over, without really achieving any results.
So, where have you been going wrong? What did you NOT do to get this right? Confused? Then read on for the possibilities and for what NOT to do:

1. Skip Breakfast

Breakfast is the most essential meal of the day. It is the meal you consume after a night of fasting. Moreover, breakfast provides the energy required by the body to do every day activities, and assists in the smooth functioning of the metabolism.

2. Eat After Long Gaps

Eating small yet frequent meals or snacks is healthier than eating after long gaps. Contrary to what you may believe, not eating for long periods of time can be very harmful. It could lead to slower metabolism and crash in levels of blood sugar. The subsequent lack of weight loss is but obvious.

3. Have an Erratic Routine

Irregular hours at work, no fixed time for meals, and the lack of a schedule or routine for day-to-day activities disrupts smooth bodily functions. One such function is the metabolism, responsible for the digestion of food and burning of calories.

4. Eat Unhealthy Food Often

Dig those fries and hamburgers? Well, eating too many of those has probably not let you reduce weight! An overdose of oily, greasy and fattening food slows down the metabolism and builds up the calories.

5. Add Liquid Calories

Drink up to reduce dehydration. But do not overdo it and cause weight gain! Huge amounts of alcohol intake can slow the metabolism despite your exercise regime being in place.

6. Eat Larger Portions at One Go

If you think you have been endeavouring to lose weight by eating at larger intervals, think again! The longer the gaps, the more difficult it is to lose weight. So, eat more often, and never make the interval between two meals or snacks more than a couple of hours.

7. Give Up A Type of Food Completely

Whilst it may be advised to not eat a particular food in excess, it may not necessarily imply that you give up eating that food completely. Instead, consume it in moderation!
Whilst it is important to know the right things to do in order to lose weight systematically, it is an oft-neglected fact that many people also ought to know what should NOT be done. If you must, know the facts and always consult a professional when in doubt.

IPL Governing Council asks Lankan cricketers to skip Chennai

New Delhi: The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday decided to keep Sri Lanka cricketers out of Chennai in view of the opposition from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

This decision will make the players from the island-nation skip the matches to be held in Chennai in view of the security concerns in Tamil Nadu over the atrocities carried out against ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka during the war against Tamil Tigers that ended in May 2009.

"The Governing Council decided that Sri Lankan players will not participate in the Pepsi IPL 2013 League matches in Chennai and will advise the nine franchises accordingly. The Governing Council met this afternoon to discuss the issue. The security of all involved in the IPL, whether players, spectators or those working in the stadiums, is of paramount importance to the BCCI," said IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla in a press statement.
"This is with reference to news reports last week that the government of Sri Lanka has issued a travel advisory that its citizens should exercise caution when travelling to Tamil Nadu. Today, the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has written to the Prime Minister of India stating that she will not permit the participation of Sri Lankan players or umpires in matches in Chennai during Pepsi IPL 2013."

Earlier, Shukla, also the union minister of state for parliamentary affairs, had said that the local administration's advice cannot be ignored but the IPL matches were not to be shifted out of Chennai.

Jayalalithaa, in her letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had stated that the state government will permit IPL matches only if the organisers promise that no Sri Lankan player, umpire, official or support staff will participate.

Street protests had taken place in Tamil Nadu to denounce the Sri Lankan government for the killings of Tamil civilians in the war against the Tamil Tigers in the emerald nation.

Eight of the nine IPL franchises have 13 Sri Lankans in their roster while Chennai, home to Super Kings, were scheduled to host 10 IPL matches this season. Ten Sri Lankan players, barring Chennai Super Kings Akila Dananjaya and Nuwan Kulasekara, will be missing just one match, the away encounter in Chennai. Dananjaya and Kulasekara, however, will me missing around eight home matches of Super Kings.

Jeevan Mendis and Mahela Jayawardene will playing for Delhi Daredevils, Sachithra Senanayake for Kolkata Knight Riders, Lasith Malinga for Mumbai Indians, Ajantha Mendis and Angelo Mathews for Pune Warriors, Kusal Janith Perera for Rajasthan Royals, Muttiah Muralitharan and Tillakaratne Dilshan for Royal Challengers, and Kumar Sangakkara and Thisara Perera for Hyderabad Sunrisers.

Why Switching To Android Would Be A Good Thing

altIn today’s world of smartphones and tablets, the market is dominated by Apple and Google, with random sightings of Windows trying to leave its mark in a fairly new territory.
And till this very day Apple with its iPhone and iOS reigned supreme, all thanks to the impeccable production quality and the fluidity that it offered to the masses for so many years while Google’s Android vainly tried to keep pace and hit back harder every time it was on its knees. And it seems it has achieved what it always wanted to.

We have finally reached a stage where Apple’s unparalleled hardware and software quality have been thwarted by Android-bearing phones that are equipped with brilliant hardware and an equally commendable operating system, the Android Jelly Bean. Sceptics and Apple loyalists may staunchly disagree to anything coming towards them, yet there are few facts that stand straight in this debate. Let’s have a look!

1. Multiple Hardware Options

Want to own an Android-based smartphone between the 10-20k bracket? A bit more? Maybe a high-end? Then feel free to go for the Sony Xperia S, HTC One X+, Samsung Galaxy Duos, and many more! Android is thankfully available across an array of handsets featuring different hardware capabilities; right from camera quality, to screen size, resolution, processor, battery life, and practically everything else! And even more so, they all have the universal Micro-USB Port, something that can be found anywhere and needs no hassle to get hold of. Apple on the other hand only gives one particular option with the only difference of memory capacity. And it costs a bomb over its competitors.

2. More Apps, More Fun

Android market is booming and how! As of February 2013, Google Play is equipped with more than 800,000 applications out of which a major chunk comprises of completely free apps! And the quality of apps has been ever-improving all thanks to major players pumping money into making apps that look professional and act the part. Not just that, an equally proficient operating system and hardware that compliments the apps in all the right way is helping developers create some hi-class apps for users!

3. Multi-Tasking

Multi-tasking has always been a concern for iPhone users. The lack to navigate swiftly among apps and use multiple ones is a problem the iOS has always been riddled with. Unlike the iOS though, Android gives you the capability to run numerous apps at the same time flawlessly. Also, the ability to jump from one to another is a piece of cake, and clubbing them with each-other is something that Android does on its own! Joy, oh joy! Another upper hand that Android holds over the iOS is its ability to add widgets of several apps on a homescreen to view, offering the capability to get insights into many apps all at the same time. Apple fails to do that completely.

4. Connectivity

The biggest flaw in Apple has been the connectivity, or the sheer lack of it. Although equipped with Bluetooth, it proves to be completely useless to send across files. Lack of the new-age NFC is yet another drawback, but it doesn’t end there. The ability to send files across mail or a messenger like WhatsApp is highly restricted to images only. And that too, is a pain to attach and send. As opposed to all this, the Android camp is full of quirky features that’ll do the same and more! What Apple fails to understand is that lacking basic means of connectivity simply goes against the whole foundation of having a cellular phone!

5. Independence

Apple’s regime seems to be highly communist. No harm in that, but the lack of several amenities that can be easily catered to, yet aren’t, makes it a tough thing for Apple to sustain, and even more so when the heap of it keeps on compiling. The flexibility and the ability that Android offers to tweak one’s smartphone to his or her particular needs and serve diligently is something that Apple seems to lack, and the fashion would tend to trend in Apple’s case. The lack of a simplistic homescreen in itself proves to be a buzz-kill for a user, and in Apple’s case the phone tends to make you act according to its rules, and not yours. That’s a fatal flaw, and a flaw that won’t let Apple sustain itself in the market of today.

Healthy Alternatives To Bhang

altBeing a spring festival, Holi requires cooling beverages to consume in the balmy weather and humidity. Although many people consume bhang, the nature of its risky effects and intoxicating potential is detrimental to safety and health.
Ensuring that the host and guest stay fresh throughout the festivities is easier with these healthy alternatives to bhang. Some are tropical, some are conventional, but they are all nourishing and fulfilling.

Milkshakes

This one is sure to be popular with the children and adults too. Make it with rose flavour, milk, saffron, sugar, cashew paste, and almond paste. This nutritious drink is tasteful and can be had by pregnant women too.

Aam Panna

This beverage is easy to make and requires green mangoes. Boil the fruit; add roasted ground cumin seeds, sugar, salt, mint leaves, red chilli powder, and crushed ice. It was originally prepared in North India and is sweet and sour and immensely refreshing.

Jal Jeera

For those with a taste for added spice, this is the perfect drink. It gets its tangy essence from the black salt used to make it. Alternately, chaat masala can be added. The other ingredients are ginger, pepper, cumin powder, mint leaves, and amchur.

alt

Lassi

The classic cooling beverage requires yoghurt mixed with water, with sugar and salt to taste. Cumin seeds are roasted and powdered and added for spiced lassi, while the sweeter version is made along with fruits like mango, strawberry, and others.

Kanji

Its ingredients are mustard seeds, beetroot, carrots, and water. Boondi is used as garnish for this drink, which is healthy for cardiac patients, thanks to the betaine of the beetroot. Let your menu have an amazingly healthy choice this time.

Nimbu Paani

Traditional and tasty, it needs lemon extract, chilled water, sugar, and mint to garnish. Make it a little different by adding a little ginger extract. This drink which can be had by all people, without concerns of age or health conditions, can also be enhanced with a pinch of pepper dust or salt.

alt

Orange Fizzle

Add strawberry crush into a glass of crushed ice. Follow it with soda and orange juice and place a wedge of lemon to garnish it. This elegant drink is a stylish mocktail to serve to your guest and drink yourself.

Raspberry Lemonade

Bring this colourful drink to the table and delight the children with its vibrant contents. This flavourful beverage is quickly prepared and suits the tastes of the grown-ups too. Mix raspberry concentrate, add sugar and lemon extract, put a couple teaspoons of mint leaves and crushed ice, and your pink lemonade will fit your festive decor.

alt

Kiwi Cruiser

Pour a shot glass of pureed Kiwi fruit and add two shot glasses of Sprite with Kiwi chunks as required. A little more froth of sweet lime with crushed ice as you like it is added after that. Blend the mixture and add a lemon garnish and crushed ice at the end to create this unusual, tropical treat for your Holi celebrating friends.

Green Coconut water

Celebrating Holi can be quite exhausting. Revitalize in an instant with this invigorating natural drink. Give it a twist by sprinkling a little salt, adding a few ice cubes, a couple teaspoons of jeera, and a few drops of lime extract. This ever refreshing drink is a great selection to offer with its detoxifying properties and smooth contents.
There may be an outcry over the lack of bhang or if you’re going out, you may not want it, but these healthy options will keep your attention all day and satisfy your tastes with ease.

Story Of The Berry New Z10

altFor a company that was once touted to be the game-changer in the international cellular market, RIM’s highly-innovative BBM messaging service came to face some serious flak in the recent times.
Substandard cellphones equipped with below-par hardware and an equally disheartening operating system charted their own path for downfall. This, of course can easily be blamed upon the advent of android-powered cellphones and the revolutionary iPhone by Apple. And so to keep up with the changing times, Blackberry unveiled the Z10. A touchscreen interface phone that looks the part and fairly does the part! Well, the Z10 is priced at Rs 43,490! That’s quite steep a price for a highly anticipated phone like the Blackberry Z10, and their last card to be drawn on the table—the Z10 proved to be their solution in this do or die situation. Let’s have a look at how it all fared!

It’s Got The Look

alt

Blackberry has done few things right over here. For one, they’ve adopted an all-touch design and threw away every physical key present, giving the Z10 a typical slate-like android-based look. Moreover, it borrows few of its design qualities from the finesse that the iPhone exults, making the Z10 look fairly classy as opposed to the android-based slabs out there. It’s comfortably thick and has just the right weight. Yet, a metal exterior, or a fairly better alternative to the plastic exoskeleton would’ve worked wonders. And especially since they’re charging a bomb, so why not make it worth every sweat!

Getting To The Heart Of The Matter

alt

As we mentioned earlier, the Z10 is comfortably loaded with hardware such as Dual core TI OMAP 4470 1.5GHz processor, 4.2-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 356 pixels per inch (better than the iPhone 5’s 326), 2 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, NFC and an 8 megapixel camera. As good as it may seem, the dual core that lies at its heart seems to fall short as opposed to the colossal Quad Core processors offered by its competitors at a relatively lower price. The battery life and other rigorous tests will be done once we get our hands on it, but so far it sounds and feels pretty interesting!

Is The Operation Successful?

alt

The operating system of the Z10 is a refreshing one as opposed to its previous editions. The operating System titled Blackberry 10 is highly adaptive and looks and feels polished and fairly buttery, although we would humbly note that the phone did seem sluggish at times while multi-tasking. Too early to tell though! The Blackberry world with their new-age messenger looks astonishingly neat, and the in-built video-chat and screen-sharing capabilities look simply delightful! This being said, a thorough and rigorous test will elucidate on how well the new OS is tailored.

Should You Buy It?

alt

For a smartphone that is so steeply priced, the tech-specks seem to be a tad disheartening, and the feel of the phone doesn’t compliment it either. The OS though, is a miraculous evolution coming from the Blackberry boys, and it looks truly promising. Although, this is just a preview and the final verdict would be out once we put the phone under a rigorous burn-test, but for now, things do seem bright in the Blackberry camp!
